Pista ng Mapa 2023 Bidding
During the second day of Pista ng Mapa 2022, the core organizers of Pista ng Mapa 2022 hosted a self-organized session about Pista ng Mapa 2023. We shared our plans to seek hosts for the next Pista ng Mapa through a bidding process similar to the international State of the Map.
General Information:
- Pista ng Mapa 2023 is assumed to be conducted face-to-face, preferably outside Metro Manila.
- Selected organization/community will work under minimal supervision from the core organizing team of Pista ng Mapa 2022.
- Suggested month for Pista ng Mapa 2023 in November, as part of the OSM GeoWeek celebration. However, the selected organization/community can conduct it earlier or later as long as it can be justified through the proposal.
- Two (2) weeks before the bid submission deadline, interested organizations must attend the pre-bid meeting with the core organizers of Pista ng Mapa 2022.
- Selected organization/community will meet the core organizers of Pista ng Mapa 2022 for proper turnover.
Who can bid?
- Any interested group/organization/community based in the Philippines committed to hosting Pista ng Mapa 2023
- Any interested group/organization/community who can organize Pista ng Mapa with minimal supervision
Good to have:
- From a legal organization
- Has an existing university partner or from a university
Target Timeline:
- 18/19 Feb - Release of bidding process/selection criteria
- 24 Mar - Deadline of submission of bid
- 11 Apr - Release of bid results

The function of the following list is to show how the core Pista ng Mapa 2022 members analyze a bid. Don't worry if your bid doesn't comply with every single criterion. But you should have a reservation for a venue for a proper date and a confirmation from the venue operator.
Team
- How many group members do the team have?
- Is the local team situated nearby the venue?
- How are the team and the group members connected to OpenStreetMap Philippines?
- Do some group members have experience organizing a larger conference (more than 100 participants)?
Bid/wiki form
- Is the form completely filled out?
Venue
- Reservation of the venue (contract shouldn't be signed, but the local team should have the confirmation of the venue operator)
- For how many visitors is the venue suitable?
- Size of auditoriums
- Size of main hall
- Floor plan with auditoriums, foyer, and breakout rooms
- Are there spaces for breakout sessions?
- Is there wheelchair access?
- Are there facilities available for pregnant women and children?
- Is the venue pet-friendly?
- Does the venue have secured, strong, and reliable internet connectivity?
COVID-19
- Does the team have the capacity to handle the COVID-19 situation?
Costs
- Is the calculation filled out with the costs for venue and catering?
- Is the venue cost acceptable?
- Is the catering cost acceptable?
City/Municipality
- What infrastructure does the place have?
- Is it an LGBT-friendly space?
- What about medical and travel safety?
- What about terrorism or crime?
Travel
- How good/accessible is the place reachable locally? From the airport?
- Is public transport available?
- Are [budget] dormitories/bnbs/hotels available for participants?
Dates
- Is the venue available on the proposed dates?
- Are there conflicts with other local conferences (local SotM, Foss4G) and holidays?
Funding (minor criterion)
- Can we expect additional local/regional sponsors?
- Is there administrative support or other support?
- Other notable features of the venue
- Are there any other notable features of the venue that we should consider?
