About Us

Overture Maps is a collaborative open-data initiative led by software developers, data experts, cartographic engineers, and product managers from dozens of Overture Maps Foundation member organizations. Since our launch in December 2022, Overture members have been working toward a shared vision: to create reliable, user-friendly, and interoperable open map data that supports both current and future map products. We envision a world where shared, open base layers drive collaboration and innovation across industries and communities.

Current Work

OpenStreetMap is a core dataset for many of the themes in Overture so ensuring it is the highest quality possible is important to us. As such, we will be running validation processes and contributing fixes back to OSM when appropriate. Validation check failures will be automatically synced as tasks to the MapRoulette challenges below.

MapRoulette Projects

Global - Fix Relations with Broken Geometries

Global - Suspicious Name Changes

Global - Review Graffiti Features

Tooling

Validation check failures will be automatically added to the maproulette projects above and mappers will make fixes through iD or JOSM where appropriate.
