Rationale

As the primary operator of railway stations in Germany, we understand the relevance of high quality public transport infrastructure data on OpenStreetMap, both for ourselves as well as for others. We therefore aim to improve data quality on OpenStreetMap by continuously comparing OpenStreetMap data with our own internal databases, adding or updating OpenStreetMap when needed.

Scope

The initial scope of our mapping efforts is to ensure that all relevant OpenStreetMap objects are tagged with (public) identifiers that can be used to compare them with our internal systems, and that stations, stop areas and platforms are connected correctly, as specified in PTv2. Based on this foundational work, we intend to perform additional monitoring and data improvement in the future. Furthermore, as discussed with the community at OSM-Samstag at FOSSGIS 2025, we intend to submit an in-depth mapping proposal for railway stations in Germany expanding on the baselines of PTv2 in the near future.
