It is useful for climbers to know the length (distance) of the route. Longer climbs are usually more fun, but needs a longer rope, more protection (quickdraws) and more endurance. If the length is longer than the usual rope length, it may be a multi-pitch climb (see Wikipedia).

Units can be tagged explicitly. Values are interpreted as meters by default.
