Using the Tool

You can use this tool in a couple different ways depending on what you are looking for.

Inspecting Changesets

This is the most common use for this tool since it gives you a visual representation of the changes that were made in a changeset. To pull up a changeset follow the steps listed above using either the JOSM history window or by using the using the URL.

Things to look for/keep in mind:
Look at the tags/geometry
  • What changes were made?
  • Did they improve the data?
Look at the date
  • When were the changes made?
How does it compare to what's in OSM?
  • Are the changes accurate to what's on the ground?
Look at their user profile
  • What can you learn about them from their profile?

Be as thorough as you need to be to fully understand the situation you are investigating.

Custom Queries

This tool also allows you to do custom queries.

To use a custom query:

  • Use the bounding box(bbox) or zoom in on an area of interest.
  • Enter the time frame you want to query for.
    • Use YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm for each date.
  • Click Load to run the query.
    • You can bookmark the link to set a Permalink to continue monitoring data for that location. Simply open the link and click Load each time.

This is useful for monitoring data changes or viewing historical edits.

For more information on how to use Achavi see the help tab on the site or go to the Achavi Wiki page.
