General description
The Garmin eTrex SE is released in 2023 as a budget model and as a spiritual successor to the eTrex 10. This model does not have map support, and unlike previous models, you can't also seem to be able to hack them in. On the upside the unit comes with digital compass, and supports BeiDou and Galileo alongside with existing GPS and GLONASS support. Multi-band frequency support is limited to the more expensive version, eTrex Solar, and the SE only has SBAS support (L5 frequency appears to be for the SBAS, not multiband GNSS).
The device ditches ANT+ support for Bluetooth and is designed to be operated with a smartphone. Garmin's apps allows you to sync tracks and waypoints, send weather information, download Geocache Live data, etc. You can also still connect it to a computer via USB-C cable.
