August 21, 2024 regular meeting of the OpenStreetMap United States Board of Directors

Call to Order

Diane called the meeting to order at 12:00pm, Eastern, via video conference.

Present:

• Diane Fritz, President

Approval of Minutes

• July minutes - approved

Reports

• The Executive Director (ED) provided an update to the board on OSM US’s activities over the prior month.
  • Hiring - ED spending time onboarding. New hires have hit the ground running
  • Hit goal of three new org members
  • Mappy hour in September to promote NCEM pilot project
  • Starting to look at venues for SOTM 2025 with support from MassGIS
  • Applied for National Park Foundation grant - Arches and Canyonlands
  • Budget health improved from last year
  • Planning for Mapping USA in January

Old Business

• No old business considered

New Business

• Improving name recognition for OSM & OSM US - improving marketing
  • Discussed presence of osm attribution at ESRI and overture
  • Celebrate Esri org membership with a blog announcement
• Balance between “authority” and “volunteerism” - philosophy discussion (Trails Working Group)
  • Instead of having a directory of ambassadors public, have people who have self-organized for regions help on the back end of a map interface
  • Education outreach can be a phase 2
