Introduction

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has created numerous mapping campaigns in Chad on the HOT Tasking Manager. The mapping guide provides tips and hints for remote mapping in Chad.

N’Djamena is situated on the Chari River and a lot of the mapping is in response to, or in anticipation of, flooding.

Distinguishing a hut from trees, bushes

Not every round structure is a building. Huts have a raised point in the middle and can have a distinct curved shadow. Trees and bushes have more ragged shadows. Look closely to see if there are paths or roads, or any surrounding fences, that would indicate a residential area.

Some fenced areas will not have a building in them; these may be animal enclosures.
