BC Transit

BC Transit (BCT) is a provincial Crown corporation in British Columbia, Canada, that plans and manages public transit networks across the province except for Metro Vancouver which is under the jurisdiction of TransLink. It manages over 50 local and regional transit networks across BC, all using buses (city bus or intercity bus/motorcoach). Operations are mostly contracted out to private transit operators or local governments except those of the Victoria Regional Transit System, which is directly operated by BC Transit.

Networks

BC Bus North

Services are contracted to Pacific Western Transportation, and uses motorcoaches.

Central Fraser Valley Regional Transit System

Services are contracted to Farwest Group (a subsidiary of FirstCanada). Formerly branded ValleyMAX.

Chilliwack Transit System and Agassiz-Harrison Transit System

Services are contracted to Farwest Group (a subsidiary of FirstCanada). While two separate networks, the Chilliwack and Agassiz-Harrison networks effectively function as one network serving the Upper Fraser Valley, with cross-honouring agreements between the two allowing Agassiz-Harrison passengers to transfer to Chilliwack buses for free, while Chilliwack passengers can transfer to Agassiz-Harrison buses by paying the fare difference on top of the base fare.

Nanaimo Transit System

Services are operated by the Regional District of Nanaimo.

Victoria Regional Transit System

Open data

BC Transit distributes schedule, bus stop and route data through their open data catalogue. Their licence however requires the attribution of BC Transit, preventing direct import of data to OSM unless BC Transit makes an exception allowing its data to be imported to OSM. The data can however can be used for verification of stops or routes mapped from on-the-ground survey and aerial imagery.
