Automated edits/bmaczero/School Nodes in School Areas

The Problem

Some amenity=school areas contain a duplicate amenity=school node. If both elements have a name=*, this results in duplicate labels. In any case, the school is being represented by duplicate objects.

There are some 1400 of these nodes in California alone. Automatically fixing up the simplest and most obvious cases will allow humans to focus their attention on cases that actually require human attention using MapRoulette.

The Algorithm

For each node with amenity=school inside an area with amenity=school, merge the node into the area, if:

  • The node and the way have an exactly matching name=* tag.
  • There are no tags for which both have a value and the value is different.

Frequency and Scope

This task will be run once. It will start on small areas and escalate until we've covered all affected areas in the United States.
