OpenStreetMap ist a map to which anyone can contribute. However, it is also a community project where many people of different cultures and backgrounds need to come together and agree what we want to map.

Signing up to OpenStreetMap and then immediately, as your very first contribution, renaming a large international waterbody according to what you claim to be “knowledge” is not an acceptable way of participiating in the OpenStreetMap community. If you want to make far-reaching changes like this, first collect some experience by mapping small things closer to home, then discuss your large renaming issue on the “talk” mailing list and find a consensus there.

I have reverted your edit to the Persian/Arabian Gulf as it will only create strife in OSM and is not helpful at all.

I am blocking this account on the suspicion that it has been created with the sole purpose of making this name change, however if you wish to use this account to peacefully contribute to OSM in the future, email [email protected] and we will unblock it.
