Dear user “Drug Rehab and Alcohol Detox Helpline Inc”,
community members in OpenStreetMap (OSM) are trying to reach you. They contact you via changeset discussions, which should normally go as a copy into your email account. However we did not receive answers, so we assume you have not received them. Please check your email settings.
I have set this message so that you need to read it first before you can continue editing.
You are new to OSM and people are trying to help. Please do not ignore them. OSM is different from other places where you might register your business, like Google and yellow pages.
OSM is a database for geo-information. It is not a place to show messages and advertising. Thus:
- it is OK to use your business/organisation name as account name. On the other hand it is not necessary to create an account for each business - if you want to add several businesses that can be done from the same account
- it is NOT ok to use the changeset comment, when uploading your changes, to propagate your mission statements. The changeset comment is there for technical reasons, to tell the community what geo-information you are changing
- it is OK to create an object for your business/organisation. But please be aware that OSM has a scheme to tag the properties of that object…
- thus please read the descriptions in the osm.wiki/ and use the presets in the editor, to follow that tagging scheme
- it is NOT ok to use the tagging scheme for propagating your mission statements. The values need to be concise, neutral, factual, free from advertising.
- it is absolutely NOT ok, when people are trying to help, to destroy their work by deleting the improved object, the corrected tagging, and create a new object that is as poorly tagged as the initial one.
Don’t hesitate to ask - the community will answer questions, but has no tolerance to vandalism and spam.
Kind regards,
Tom
