I am an avid charity shop visitor and like to go to all of the charity shops when i visit towns. As it is difficult to search these out - especially the local ‘good cause’ which is less likely to be located on the main shopping areas I thought it would be a good idea to map these and produce leaflets that could be made available through tourist information centres - only looking to cover costs of production and contribution to travel costs. I have considered approaching charities for a copy of their logo which could be used to identify locations on the street map. Would welcome any help from the community on how i can make a start with this project.

If you have technical questions, about how to render a map etc, I could help you (I think) and in any case, I know people who can certainly help you. But I can’t help with getting these things organised.
If you want, you can send me a PM.

What cities/towns are you going to focus on? There are some local charity shops that aren’t part of chains.
This is one run by my church in Durham osm.org/browse/node/412288388

I was thinking of starting with the North east and it is because local charities are dependent on reaching customers that i was aiming to visit the towns and ask locals where the shops are located - also to invite information such as that you have provided - may have bitten off more than i can chew!

Great to hear you are interested in mapping charity shops, I have been mapping quite a few around here. First thing to do would be to find where they are, and add them to OSM. Sometimes it can be a bit tricky to find all of the obscure local shops!
I have made an example map of charity shops here (now a bit out of date): http://green.osmalba.org/charity.html Note you can click on the icons to get the name and details. It would be possible to use different icons for each charity etc. I can explain how to make something like that if you want.

I would start with my home town of Hexham and my husband was a cartographer - we are both now retired - so I thought it would be a useful thing to do with our ‘spare’ time. All help would be appreciated - he would understand mapping terms and i can root out the charity shops.
thanks
