| 64719436 | about 7 years ago | While I was here, I merged the school's point, that came from a TIGER Data Import osm.wiki/TIGER_fixup , and the area that Munchabunch had added 7 years ago. |
| 64719436 | about 7 years ago | Looks good. I should warn you, that often the imagery will have an offset that needs to be lined up to GPS traces. We have found that recent MapBox imagery has been spot on, but that is unusual. Here is more information. osm.wiki/Using_Imagery |
| 64538973 | about 7 years ago | Very nice. |
| 63905053 | about 7 years ago | I would leave the miles of sidewalk you have already laid down, however, Lansing allows bicycles on sidewalks. So for proper routing, we should tag them accordingly. The Lansing Wiki page mentions this... osm.wiki/Lansing,_Michigan#Pedestrian By the way, I love the work you are doing. Lansing is looking great. |
| 63813692 | about 7 years ago | The Lansing Wiki page lists best practices for sidewalks and paths, borrowed from the Bike-Ottawa project and related wiki pages. For this, the following tags might be more appropriate: highway=footway + footway=sidewalk + foot=designated + bicycle=yes + segregated=no + surface=concrete/asphalt/paved If you disagree, we should discuss it on the Lansing Talk wiki page. |
| 63686681 | about 7 years ago | I would love to see what remains of that old railway bed turned into a Rails-to-Trails trail. |
| 61978819 | over 7 years ago | Welcome to OpenStreetMap! Points on OpenStreetMap should have a tag (or tags) designating the type of point it is (beyond a name and contact information). However, I do not know what that would be in the case of a towing company. It seems others have asked and the best option presented was shop=car_repair ( https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/47158/cartruck-towing-business ). As that did not seem to be to be the best option, I have the question on the Wiki ( osm.wiki/Talk:Tag:shop%3Dcar_repair#Should_a_Towing_company_be_tagged_as_a_car_repair_shop.3F ). In the meantime, you may want to tag this as shop=car_repair. |
| 61204702 | over 7 years ago | Thank you for correcting my mistaken memory. |
| 60128109 | over 7 years ago | Just so you know, we are supposed to outline a buildings footprint...
Maybe you were after a 3D effect, here are the tagging guidelines for 3D...

| 55864578 | over 7 years ago | Hi PeterParker1,
This change set and their recent fix (
See you around. |
| 60631262 | over 7 years ago | Love it! I do not see everything you've done (what I have looks great), but this caught my attention. |
| 60446721 | over 7 years ago | By the way, at least recently, the Mapbox imagery has been the most recent and best aligned. |
| 60446721 | over 7 years ago | A few observations, to save you later re-work… Areal imagery will often have an offset, differing from the GPS location ( osm.wiki/Using_Imagery ). Properties like City, State, Zip and Country are inferred from their bounding areas. Names, including street and city names, should not be abbreviated ( osm.wiki/Addresses ) Except in cases like St. Johns, where that is its actual name. |
| 55872730 | over 7 years ago | A note/bug report has been created, regarding the dentist office here... |
| 60348505 | over 7 years ago | Welcome! Just so you know, city, state, zip and country are implied, based on their container objects. osm.wiki/Addresses#How_to_map_addresses Also, the most recent and best aligned imagery, in our area, currently is Mapbox. This image offset can be seen, by enabling any public GPS traces folks have shared and looking at the alignment of the roads to the traces. My method for capturing and sharing GPS traces, is to also capture street level imagery, using a free phone mount and app from Mapillary. osm.wiki/Mapillary |
| 60027719 | over 7 years ago | I am thinking, if the stop number is to be used as the stop's name (which I am fine with), it should not include the pound (#) sign. Normally a unique identifier like this, or a store number, or branch name, would be put in a ref=* tag. Note, that the Public transportation tags are currently in a more than usual state of flux.

| 55953847 | over 7 years ago | Thank you for mapping the Capitol complex. It looks nice. Just so you know, the recommendation on the Wiki is, "If something really doesn't have a name, don't add a name to OpenStreetMap." Though, they do go on to say, "It is certainly wrong for a mapper to invent a name for an airstrip; however most names were invented at some point in history, so if someone invents a name and it catches on and a sizeable group of people refer to the thing by that name, then it's ok to be mapped." Not knowing whether these are the official names, I'll let you decide if seeing names like "Capitol Walkway Area - North" rendered on the map and returned in searches is helpful, without adding clutter and possibly misinformation. osm.wiki/Names#Name_is_the_name_only Thanks again. |
| 59546449 | over 7 years ago | Ironically, several weeks ago, I ran around in Fenner capturing traces to do the same thing. I even got locked in, after dark. If you turn on Public GPS Traces and Mapillary images, you will see what I had captured and never got around to mapping. |
| 59467645 | over 7 years ago | Just so you know, lately, I have found the Mapbox Satellite imagery to be the most up to date and best aligned to reality. At least in our area. It seems, that block has changed since most of the other imagery was taken. |
| 59436891 | over 7 years ago | This might save you some work in the future, copied from the Wiki, "Tags such as addr:country=*, addr:city=* and addr:postcode=* are often redundant as features inside administrative boundaries (when mapped) "inherit" their attributes as supported by software such as Nominatim or Photon. "
