Eastbound 496 has been open, for a little while, and now westbound is closed.

I am thinking, that unless we plan to keep road closures up to date, it would be better to keep a roadways tagged as open.

Watch out for imagery offset problems, where the areal imagery between tiles/dates/sources is often slightly askew/shifted/different than reality. If you see most of the roads and houses are not lining up, it is likely the imagery tile that needs to be moved/aligned, not the objects. Each editor has its own way of doing this. One way to verify this is to change to different image source or turn on the display of public GPS traces and look at the trace to image alignment at a road intersection. You must have done your homework. Most new users (myself included) add houses as "building=house", when around here, they are more often "building=detatched".

Very good. I error regularly. =)

Nice work.
Might consider using the less obvious, yet more detailed tag, building=detached .
building=house

Curious. Last I checked, the MSU Union mostly brick, concrete foundation and a slate roof. Did I miss something?

According to the Wiki, it looks like the current convention would be to tag the sailing club area with:
club=sport
sport=sailing

See sport=sailing

Slipways are mapped as a single node at the water's edge, at the end of the "highway".
leisure=slipway

See also the Lansing area Wiki page (which I hope to soon move to the Michigan page) for local conventions.

Thank you for the edit! Glad to have you helping out. Just so you know...

The City, State and Zipcode are inherited from the surrounding area and are only needed when they differ.

I have recently learned that individual houses can more accurately be tagged as building=detached. I have a very large number to go back and change. =)

Is that house really called "Emily's dad"?

Nice work. I've been meaning to do the same for some time. Tonight, I finally looked up the lot lines, only to find that you had beat me to the work.

Nice work.

As you asked for a review, I will add:
The current preferred phone number format is +1-###-###-#### .
OpenStreetMappers have settled on distinguishing between fast_food and restaurant, by whether there are waitstaff at the establishment.

For a local area tagging cheat-sheet see the Lansing Wiki page:

Hope to see you around.

Just so you know, in the Lansing area, I have found the recent Mapbox imagery to be the most recent and best aligned (offset) with the map. Though, it was taken during last year's flooding, so some of the areas along the rivers are literally “washed out”.

I believe those once active in East Lansing have moved and most everyone else in the area is pretty new. So, you will likely not get much push back.

It would probably be a good idea to edit the Wiki, if this is how we would like to go forward.

At last year's State of the Map US, there was a presentation given on how Portland was doing pedestrian routing, where this topic was addressed.

There are two competing/complementing methods for tagging sidewalks in OSM. The one you chose, adding the sidewalk to the roadway, is the quickest way to add pedestrian routing. Some areas, like Portland prefer it, as it is also simpler for their routing software. The other method is to map each individual sidewalk, as has been done throughout campus.

Here is more information about mapping sidewalks.

Having spent some time in Boston, where they started by adding the sidewalk tag to their streets (highway), then later adding individual sidewalks, where ever they deviated from the roadways. I found this blended method worked well enough to confidently lead a dozen people around that hectic city.

Here is what our community has determined, so far, on the matter.
