If you can look at aerial shots during any given warm summer day you'll find the park abuzz with fishermen, as it's the best beach fishing in the area.

It's a municipal park that encompasses a traffic circle( that has an informational placard and local wildlife sculpture), a parking lot, city restroom, city bike rack and the end of the spit pedestrian trail. There are local native plants planted in the traffic circle as well as salt marsh between the parking lot and beach. It's hardly just "a very popular spot".
