It told me that I needed to update the maps. But! There is always open source. Having found you by Google search. And having dowmloaded the second link? There were but two. Sat Nav no longer says update. I loaded it through the Garnim Web Update Program. Now my Wife.((as last night!)will not get completely lost when thrown off course by an accident. The problem being that London is badly signed. Still she decided to give up trying to get to work and returned home. Somewhat stressed out, but a cup of good English tea soon put her to rights. and a pleasant evening was spent by all. All being My wife. The Dog and yours truly.
Who-ever? Did what? You have my eternal gratitude for the free map update. But sorry my funds(I am retired) do not allow for any donation. But if I can help with the mapping please say so. Though I am not a programmer. Just a rather eccentric Poet.

Of course! Everyone's contributions are welcome, and you don't need to be very technical to get involved.
Have a look at this page: osm.wiki/Beginners%27_Guide for a beginner's guide, and feel free to ask questions if you're stuck!

Even by "just" using OSM and spreading the love you immensely help this project. It's great to hear from a random normal ;-) person how OSM makes them happy.

Assuming you can't record a GPS track but have internet access you can use walking-papers.org to make paper maps on which to write additions and corrections, and post or scan and send these in. You can also use http://openstreetbugs.appspot.com/ to mark items which need 'fixing'.

You could add housenumbers in your neighbourhood. You do not need extra equipment like GPS devices - just read the documentation page on housenumbers and download JOSM. That would be very helpful. But as always in Open Source, no compensation is required. Have fun with the maps! :-)

Regarding housenumbers, don't add name=My House or My Friend's house (unless it is an actual establishment, like a pub or a restaurant, or maybe a school). Some people are paranoid when it comes to their privacy.

Write a poem and use it to spread the word about OSM. There have been poetry competitions in OSM in the past. Everyone's constructive contribution is very welcome.

It's actually quite adventurous to use OSM on a satnav for general use. I hope you don't run into too many navigational problems.

Tell us where you find errors in the map. This can be done with OpenStreetBugs
