Palawan Philippines - from Puerto Princessa to Elnido

Welcome to OSM! Mappers in the Philippines are very much welcome. :-)

How about primary-source maps?

I guess I need to clarify. I don't intend that people copy facts from these "you-are-here" type of maps. What I meant was that people should use these types of maps as a guide for additional surveying. If you see on the zoo map that there's a lion's den that you forgot to map, then by all means, go to the lion's den and do the actual mapping. But the fact that you used the zoo's map to know that there's a lion's den should not in any way compromise the integrity of the data you thus collected manually.

How about primary-source maps?

That doesn't address the Japanese example.

Mapping Again!

Redundant? Ouch! Hope you won't be redundant for long. But in the meantime, OSM is good to have you for a while. :-)

Embassies worldwide now with country code

Oh, so that's why I see your edits to the embassies in my area. :-)

Any particular reason why you changed the from_country tag to just country?

I am now a "classic" OpenStreetMapper

@maning, I'd do it if only I didn't have asthma: Metro Manila air and ashtmatics don't mix. :-P

GPS Tracks worked!

Good that you already got the GT-31! I'm looking forward to seeing you fully map San Pablo City and adjacent municipalities. :-)

Please add to this page with your contributions: WikiProject Philippines - GPStogo program.

Yug, is this you?

You might remember me as one of the members of the English WikiProject Maps. I also contribute here in OSM.

Please check out these two pages:

India Satellite Picture misaligned

The permanent solution I guess is to report to Yahoo! that their satellite image in that area is misaligned. It should be possible to submit GPS traces as proof.

(As to how to report to Yahoo!, that's a different problem altogether.)

Brisbane - Exploring a sheared area of Yahoo imagery

Is the whole Yahoo! imagery here offset by a set amount? Maybe Yahoo! should be notified so they can fix it on their end.

Starting out

Good luck! Many people would be envious of you for having a huge virgin territory to map. :-)

As for aerial imagery, you can access them from JOSM (via a plugin) as well as in Potlatch. If there's no clear imagery, then we just have to wait for Yahoo! to acquire more imagery; it's not a case of disallowing derivative works since Yahoo! has allowed OSM to trace streets from their imagery.

Trying out Merkaartor

I'm a bit familiar with the niceties of JOSM (such as making a road having lots of intersections straight) but I don't have Java 1.5 on my laptop and I couldn't be bothered to install it. :-P

As far as my angle-sense is concerned, I'm quite confident I can hand-draw 90-degree corners within +-2 degrees. (I've taken this nifty online Flash test that lets you test geometry skill and I got an excellent grade [less than 3 points; the lower the better]).

First Submission

Welcome to the club! Beware, OSM can be quite addicting!

Akranes mapping results

Wow! I admire your dedication to continue mapping even as winter sets in. :-)

Santo Domingo, D.R.

Well, even if the map was copyrighted by the government, I seriously doubt that a map created by the government especially for tourism purposes would contain Copyright easter eggs.

But I would still recommend verifying the street names from the ground.

Mapping Eastwood Mall

Thanks! But I did not place the node with the garmin:description tag there. It was part of a mass import of data coming from a local waypoints group here. But glad to see that you learned something from where I mucked around. :-)

Ortigas Online is using OSM

Hi acrosscanadatrails, I'm sure there's plenty of sites using OSM, like Flickr. I don't think we need to add every bit of usage to the Image of the Week. :-)
