over 2 years ago | Hi, adding this restaurant is helpful, and looks fine. Nice job keeping the description brief, though probably would only describe the current object, not former. Could instead add the key=value tag "old_name=Aleppo Kitchen" to store that information for recently changed items, which is still searchable.
over 2 years ago | Thanks for deleting the removed building. In this case, you can draw the area of the fenced in part, add the barrier=fence tag, and a landuse=brownfield tag. Was fine to remove the address here since the building was razed (I sometimes place an address-only node for reference) though please be careful to leave them if the address is still valid for the next tenant. Thanks!
over 2 years ago | Hi, and welcome to OSM! The tags added look good! The abbreviations are all expanded correctly. A few tips about the building geometry -- generally should coincide with the building footprint, not the roof outline. After drawing the house outline and assigning the building type in the iD Editor, you can press 'q' or select the building and right-click to get a menu to square up corners which are at nearly 90 degree angles, which is usually correct. Thanks again!
over 2 years ago | Hi, I've placed the tags in the correct OSM format, no need to update them again! Thanks!
over 2 years ago | Hi, thanks for updating your business on the map, though I needed to fix the change so the business shows up in the right area -- generally nodes with addresses should stay where they are, so you'd remove any non-address tags from the old place, and add them to an object in the new place. Again, I already made a change, just letting you know. Thanks again!
over 2 years ago | Hi, welcome to OSM - thanks for the edit! It looks like the Grocery Outlet was in unit A (still there, even if there's no tenant), so I created a new node for unit B and moved your tags to it. (Also useful to just remove individual tags on businesses, in order to keep address info when businesses close). Thanks again!
over 2 years ago | By the way, I've been using rapideditor.org where the imagery looks good/aligned - it can make things quicker & help avoid burnout, while still putting in valid buildings one at a time. Thanks again!
over 2 years ago | Yeah, it's fun to see multiple people contributing to the same location, adding different things rather than going it alone. It does take some time to get comfortable with the remote mapping, but keep at it!
over 2 years ago | Thanks for helping add some buildings, etc. here!
over 2 years ago | Hi, thanks for helping add some buildings in this area!
over 2 years ago | Hi, welcome to OSM! Did you intend to delete the sidewalk along this entire section? It looks like it's still there in the aerial imagery. (I can undo it for you if necessary, just let me know.) Also, it's helpful to add a brief comment string on changes so others have an idea what was meant. Thanks!
over 2 years ago | Thanks for the help here!
over 2 years ago | Welcome to OSM! I’ve only looked at the business closures you created, and they look… all right. Nice job keeping the addresses for the next tenant. Thanks for the edit!
over 2 years ago | 2. It looks like the buildings you shifted are now aligned with the underlying Bing Imagery, but that imagery was not aligned with the other buildings in the area. To fix this, it's usually best to align the imagery with the existing data first. To do that, go into the editor and press 'B'. Then select the imagery you like (Bing Maps Aerial is the default and okay for here, others may be more sharp/up to date). Scroll down to the bottom of that panel to "Imagery Offset". If you drag in that box, you can align the selected imagery to all the other buildings in the neighborhood, and then any tracing you do in the main box will be aligned. Hope this helps!
over 2 years ago | Hi, welcome to OSM and thanks for the building changes. Just a couple of tips: 1. After drawing the shapes, if you press 'q' it can try to square any corners (which are already close). (Also available by right-clicking on the outline and selecting the squaring tool).
over 2 years ago | Hi, thanks for the edit, glad to see a little more detail. Are these alleys actually signed this way? The alleys extend for 5 blocks, and these names seem pretty unofficial.
over 2 years ago | Hi, I didn't know about this, but it's an interesting historical item. Thanks for mapping it!
over 2 years ago | Hi, just looked at this and the material tag you added looks good (it's more commonly used than the media tag that is also there). The data originally came from a Seattle data import (with permission) years ago and knowledge, so not sourced from Wikipedia. (Also, I sent a separate followup note with a few links.) Thanks!
over 2 years ago | Hi, welcome to OSM! I just briefly checked the buildings you drew -- they look pretty good, but a quick tip is that once you 1. draw each one 2. tag it as a building, then with the building selected you can 3. press 'q' (or right-click select the squaring tool) to make the corners 90 degrees (if they're close already). It can make the resulting building look tidier. Thanks again for the edits!
almost 3 years ago | Thanks for the note. I'd seen the different documentation as well, and tried but wasn't able to find a definitive answer. I'm fine if you'd like to go ahead and make both of those changes though. Thanks again!
