open wifi points

Posted by rolfrioja on 14 December 2011 in English.

It is missing an icon for open wifi internet points.

I would like to enter an open Wifi internet points in the map.
Which icon should I use?

Individual wifi access points are not usually mapped in OpenStreetMap. Because they are often temporary, and may be private etc.
There are a number of other websites where you can map wifi access points, eg http://openbmap.org/

Though if a business / amenity etc provides wifi (eg pub, cafe), then you can map the business in OpenStreetMap. Then tag that it provides internet access. See internet_access=*

There are cases where cities provide wifi ... this isn't very common in the US, though there have been proposals (e.g in Philadelphia) which could lead to it. Is there an accommodation for public wifi points which are not associated with individual businesses? <== and there are a heck of a lot of those, yes.

Look at:
internet_access=*

But these are not shown on www.openstreetmap.org. You'll have to make your own rendering/layer to display it.
