Eventually when the line opens, the stations still has to be edited manually by someone to change the station tag and remove construction tag This method in fact, while not officially allowed, allows one to edit the stations to be updated to operational by removing '(U/C)' from the title. I have to spoken to others in the community initially on resolving this issue by either tagging stations as construction or the current method which is just to append (U/C) or (Not in Service), which is typical of Singapore maps. The choice to go with the (U/C) option was not a personal option to 'vandalise' (as you call) entire maps and stations, but rather, other mappers prefer to retain the U/C station outline as opaque and visible (by setting it to construction OSM automatically hides and not renders it on maps). Yet this brings us to an issue if its not labelled as (U/C) or (Not in Service) that regular users viewing are not aware that these stations are not open, which causes confusion. Unless the community can come up with a consensus, this is the only solution atm that could satisfy general user's needs + mappers who prefer station outlines to be visible. The whole set of changes relating to setting station names as U/C came about after a general user was commenting on every station that was under construction as closed. So until OSM comes up with a way to properly tag and render these stations under construction, there is not one way that could satisfy everyone. |

Users might be confused that stations are open but it actually is not. Similar with the U/C scenerio, the only two options I can see right now is either tag it fully U/C, ie. railway=construction and construction=station, of which the station outline and name will disappear, or that we insert (U/C) or (Not in Service) tags similar to how StreetDirectory / official LTA maps does so Unless of course, there is a method to specify a different name for the map renderer to render it, then we could insert the additional (U/C) or (Not in Service) tags in the alternate name |

However, this resolves the issue of Not in Service or U/C stations appearing in the map and confusing users, which was according to numerous feedback under notes that has been closed. The only alternative would be to alter the station name to display the status if the station building outline is to be retained... Unless perhaps you can propose other alternatives such as tagging the entire station as construction (station outline and name will be hidden) or any other tags that will disable the station name, or provide alternative names for the map renderer without adding (U/C) or (Not in Service) to the name property |
