| 60844346 | over 7 years ago | Hi, my thought is that OSM is a geospacial database, not just a road navigation map, and that it may not be easy to determine what someone may use the data for. For instance, "average proximity to emergency services" or "can packages be shipped to this address" questions may be more accurate with a mapped driveway, even if it is private. I certainly don't disagree with you strongly enough to revert, but I did want to put out the idea that if something physically exists, it is best to describe it accurately as a private driveway, and update the geometry, rather than deleting it. The norms for this vary around the world, but seem to trend toward "keep but describe" rather than removal. Thanks - Sam |
| 60844346 | over 7 years ago | Hi, community norms may vary, but I've found it is better practice to change long driveways to "highway=service, service=driveway, access=private" to prevent routing, rather than deleting, as long as the physical feature is present.

| 60802897 | over 7 years ago | Hi, if the path is still physically present, but no longer accessible to the public, it is better to leave the path in place, but add the tag "access=private" to prevent routers from sending people along it. If you simply delete it, someone else will put it back from the imagery later.

| 60558490 | over 7 years ago | Hi, no worries! Mapping in OSM is pretty easy, but there are some tricks. I corrected the accidental deletion of the "boundary" tag from the coastline, and made sure that some of the local bodies of water have "natural=coastline" for the water, "natural=beach" for the nearby beach, and "natural=water, water=pond/lagoon/tidalflat" for the other nearby bodies of water. Don't be scared off mapping - there looks to be a lot in Puerto Penasco that can be mapped, and adding parks, scrub, fountains and ponds can all provide useful info for PoGo. Note that Niantic doesn't download the OSM data except every few months, so it make take a little while for your improvements to kick in, but at least you are benefiting the community with better maps while doing it. Here are some more tips for getting started mapping: osm.wiki/Tips_for_new_(Pokemon_Go)_mappers |
| 60558490 | over 7 years ago | Hi, welcome to OSM! Be careful when removing tags - you removed "boundary=administrative" from the Mexico border, so I put it back. You can add new tags, but when in doubt, don't delete existing ones. Thanks!

| 60435096 | over 7 years ago | Hi, welcome to OSM. I reverted some of your changes - I don't think your business occupies the entire One Tampa City Center building, so it is best to create a single point for your business POI, where you can give the name and address of your office. Don't use the "description" tag for advertising messages - instead, use the "website" tag to give a link to your website.

| 60364351 | over 7 years ago | Sorry for jumping the gun on the fixes, I was curious about the dataset quality to so spent a few minutes looking it over. Pretty darn good, really, but with a few odd errors. Feel free to revert me. Lots of discussion going on about the MS import now, on the email list, and the #general and #colorado channels in Slack. |
| 60364351 | over 7 years ago | FYI, found a few odd things that the MS footprint algorithm was doing - it marked some of the airport striping as buildings, and has a problem with circular buildings - it very much wants them to be square. I fixed a few, see this changelog for examples: changeset/60364868

| 60364351 | over 7 years ago | Hi, I don't know enough about imports to recommend the right process, but with the new MS building footprint I know there is a lot of discussion going on. The #colorado channel in the OSM slack channel (https://osmus.slack.com/messages/C4WKKHH0V/) might be a good place to start before jumping into to much importing - they are working another dataset for metro denver already.

| 60364485 | over 7 years ago | Hi, welcome to OSM! Saw you requested a review - your house additions look good, well squared and traced. The only small thing I noticed was that one of the houses had the address tags added to the node on the corner, rather than the whole area. Usually you only need to tag the area as a whole, rather than the point. Happy mapping!

| 60360804 | over 7 years ago | Hi, same comment as before - you can either use a point or an area to describe a feature like a park, but you don't need both. In this case, you can remove the point added on the NW side of the park, and just put the park tags on the area itself.

| 60360559 | over 7 years ago | Hi, welcome to OSM! Took a look at a few of your recent edits and I have a few tips to improve the mapping. For the police station, use "building=yes" tag instead of "area" tags. Keep the outline as close to the building as possible, and use the "s" key in iD to "square" the building before saving. For the sports areas in the park, you can use either an area OR a point, but usually not both. For instance, the athletic field area can have all of the same tags you put on the point. Usually people drop a point if they don't have time or information to draw the area, but if there is an area drawn, it gets all the tags. Good luck and keep at it!

| 60291324 | over 7 years ago | Hi, I removed your additions, since they don't correspond to any real objects. If you want to get back into mapping, take a look at these tips: osm.wiki/Tips_for_new_(Pokemon_Go)_mappers
|
| 60291324 | over 7 years ago | Hi, welcome to OSM! Remember that you are editing the global live map, used by people all over the world for many purposes - adding the different areas over your home is likely to cause confusion. If you do want to map your home, please just trace the building using the tags "building=yes", things that aren't really there, or are tagged with personal information are best left off the public map.
|
| 60291381 | over 7 years ago | Hi, thanks for editing! I cleaned up your parking aisle geometry a bit - take care to delete unneeded nodes and ways so your final map edit is as clean as possible.

| 60264182 | over 7 years ago | Hi, welcome to OSM! Saw your review request and I have a few tips for easier mapping. First is that sidewalks don't usually need to be mapped separately - unless they are truly disconnected from the road, or lead to another destination, then you can simply tag the road "sidewalk=both". osm.wiki/Sidewalks Your buildings look good, well traced. Use the "s" key in iD to "square" the building before saving - it will make all the angles 90 degrees for better display. And finally, the culdesac doesn't have to be drawn as a loop - if you click on the end node and select the "Turning Circle" preset, then renderers will automagically show a circle there without having to draw it. I made a few changes to your edits as a demonstration, but don't think of it as a revert - just a demo so you can see the tag results.

| 59646351 | over 7 years ago | Hi, saw you requested a review of this OSM edit a few weeks ago. A few tips - try to draw the building edges as close as possible to the imagery, then use "s" key to square up the building before saving. Also, no need to use the "name" tag for a house - the building=house and address tags are enough. I made a few tweaks, but hope that helps.

| 60235541 | over 7 years ago | Checked against streetside imagery and you are right, don't seem to be any signs. TIGER is further off in Tulsa than I'm used to, will pay closer attention. |
| 60235572 | over 7 years ago | Got it, sorry for the bad import |
| 59963058 | over 7 years ago | Good work chewing through building additions in Boulder! I've been watching you move gradually north and appreciate the improvements. |
