8 months ago | Hey French, it's Pete Masters here. A lot of tese points don't have any tags. They are just empty nodes... Do you still have the data locally or were these mistakes?
about 2 years ago | Ibrahim, that's looking good now :)
about 2 years ago | Hi Ibrahim, this one also needs amenity=hospital and the name tag corrected ('name' not 'Names'). Thanks for mapping :)
about 2 years ago | Hi Ibrahim, this needs to include an amenity=clinic tag and the tag for name needs to be 'name', instead of 'Names'. Great to see you adding some survey data, though! :)
over 2 years ago | Hi @Uroma how are you? I am adding some landuse=residential where I see buildings here. You have added some village points, but they don't seem to align to where the residential areas are. Where they are really close (within 200 metres) I will move the village point onto the residential area. If it's further away, I'll add a fixme tag.
over 2 years ago | have tagged as natural ponds as they are irregular in shape, but actually looks like a quarry, so maybe is the result of human action. Not sure if I have tagged correctly....
over 2 years ago | There is an overlap with some historic water data here - seeking advice from more experienced mappers as to what to do... comment should read added pond btw, not (add comment here) !
almost 3 years ago | Agree. I think this is a mistake. I will delete it.
about 3 years ago | Hi tomhukins, indeed I have seen your username around ;) Thanks for improving it - I'll be honest, I wasn't confident incorporating the pedestrian crossing, but I can use yours as an example now... Cheers!
over 3 years ago | Hi all, I would like to try and take some of the heat out of this conversation by providing a bit of context... I'll also post to the HOT mailing list on this topic, too as I think there are things we can discuss more broadly and learn from... Also want to acknowledge that martien-176 is a very committed and active HOT volunteer and does a ton of validation (as well as being on HOT WGs for data quality and training). He cares about the quality of the data going into OSM and then being used by responders. javbw, it also clear that you are a committed contributor to OSM and mapping for humanitarian purposes. There a couple of relevant reasons that validators of mapping done through the TM tend to ask people to stick to the requirements asked for in the project... Firstly, at least in part a response to valid criticism from other OSM community members, that without trying to constrain (through project instructions and validation feedback) what people map, we often end up with inconsistency across the geographical area. For example, clumps of roads that don't connect to a wider network or an isolated length of river in the middle of nowhere. Secondly, if an inexperienced mapper contributes to an urgent task and decides to map features that they have no experience in and maps them wrong, it does then take validator time to rectify this and we do try to make sure that in mapping following crises we help create data useful to responders as quickly as possible. Having said that, javbw does know what they're doing (and was validating simultaneously) and so these lessons from experience may not apply. I think the wording of martien'-176's original changeset comment above wasn't perfect, but the intent wasn't bad and he apologised if his meaning was misconstrued. We'll take this issue back into the validator community in HOT and discuss to see how we can improve our process and the way in which we engage mappers... javbw, I hope this doesn't discourage for you from future humanitarian mapping - as someone who worked at MSF for many years, I can tell you it is much appreciated. If you didn't catch the MSF talk at State of the Map, I would recommend the recording when it is published.
over 4 years ago | hi @rab, how are you? Easy one to clear up... HOT is not profiting from this, through funds or anything else. We had no relationship with Micron before this (we are now in touch as we needed to ask them to stop mapping) and had no prior knowledge of their mapping plans (the same goes for other Missing Maps members). We are, however, trying to resolve the issue as we recognise the importance of data quality and the negative impact this kind of event can have. FYI, we have written to the DWG to give a heads up on the situation and open a dialogue on resolution.
almost 5 years ago | Hi @Eleuthere and all! If it helps, we run virtual mapathons where there is a JOSM training room. Here, experienced JOSM'ers guide people through the install / mapping process using JOSM - we are very experienced with solving the mac problems ;) In fact, there is also a validation training room if you're interested... These mapathons are run by the Missing Maps London community and take place on the first Tuesday of every month at 1900 UTC. If you're interested, the sign up will appear here in a week or two: https://www.missingmaps.org/events/ Hopefully, see you there!
almost 5 years ago | Hi, testing the notifications on a changeset. Let me know where / how you receive it...
over 8 years ago | Thanks for spotting this, Rab... I have mapped it back. In this area, this is the only imagery we have access to, unfortunately.
