| 1888806 | wwhide | I'm bringing this up again because the last time I brought it up the issue was not resolved to my satisfaction. Basically the answer was a snarky "stuff happens" which is not constructive or helpful. Someone in this area is going too far with adding features. Fences, bamboo hedges, a redwood tree, and sidewalks are way too detailed. While maps are getting more detailed as time passes, there is no OSM convention that says we should be adding all of these things and without proper tags, sidewalks can't be separated out from a hiking trail or any other generic path. The presence of a sidewalk ought to be a tag on the street, although there is not a convention for this either and it does not account for incomplete walkways. While I applaud the effort, I believe it's premature and perhaps this person should probably be using a personal map instead of OSM for this mapping project. |
