| A2 through Chatham | If you get a bit further on onto Gillingham Watling Street, I've left a part as dual carriageway because I wasn't sure whether it was a dual carriageway interrupted by a lot of turns or a single carriageway with a lot of islands and hatching to indicate you weren't supposed to drive in the middle bit. |

| Smartphones with good GPS | My Nokia 900 produces reasonably good traces - not as good as my Locosys GT-11 but accuracy within the 10 metre range. Poorer accuracy may be due to being in my pocket while the GT-11 is on the bike mount. Various applications will record GPS plus you have OSM2go for direct editing. |

| Laptop logging | I started doing OSM with an early eeepc, a very small device, running Mandriva linux. As I record while cycling, the laptop is used at home hence not for recording. I download from the navigps using gpsbabel and the command line, into gpx format then edit and upload using merkaartor. Why merkaartor, because the rest of my system is a KDE4 desktop and therefore uses the same underlying toolkit, saving memory and space. You need to ensure you are running the right versions of programs - these are things that linux distributions often don't keep fully up to date, so if you want something that is this month's version not last year's, you have to compile yourself, which is pretty easy but scary at first. |
