This is listed in the city's open data as Delmar Path (see https://data.cityofberkeley.info/dataset/Trail-map/r3zb-4nu7 for example), and you can see the existing right of way in the parcel data. It looks like the BPWA was raising money to build this path as recently as 2019 ( https://www.berkeleypaths.org/pathstories/2019/3/29/gofundme-campaign-for-terrace-view-paths ). I don't know the current status of these efforts, but it seems reasonable to have this tagged as a proposed way.

When sidewalks have been mapped as separate ways, as they have here, it's important to include all the crosswalks so that pedestrian routing can still work. Legally, there is an unmarked crosswalk here, and this is one of the places where people who need to cross Cedar St need to cross to avoid taking long detours. The kerb=raised, crossing=unmarked, wheelchair=limited tags should ideally cause routing software to prefer better crossing locations, if they exist.

It's also important where areas with separately mapped sidewalks (ie, with footway=sidewalk ) meet areas where the sidewalks have been mapped as tags on the main way (see sidewalk=* ), such as at this intersection, to include the connections at the end of the sidewalk ways.

Hi,
This address looks like a P.O. box. Does your company have an actual physical office somewhere that can be added to the map? Otherwise, this is likely to be removed.

This doesn't seem quite right. Colby doesn't directly intersect with Forest Street, but instead intersects with Claremont and requires crossing the northeast crosswalk to reach the main intersection. This edit places the crosswalk on the wrong side of Colby. It also obscures the fact that someone traveling north on Claremont would have to completely cross the intersection before turning left onto Colby. While the previous geometry wasn't a perfect representation either, it seems more accurate for this complex intersection.

Note: when you put the barrier=kerb tags right on the intersection between two perpendicular sidewalks (such as node/9811659110 for example) it implies that someone walking along the sidewalk and turning directly onto the other has to step off the curb. In reality they never encounter a curb at all unless actually crossing the street. It's generally better to map the curb a little bit away from the intersection, where the crosswalk crosses the actual curb.

I see a comma here?

I would be surprised if UCSC formatted their name differently from the other UC campuses, which follow the "University of California, [Place]" format.

Your company is not located in a big triangular building in the middle of Folsom Street. If it's a real company, with a actual physical office, please feel free to add it at it's actual location (without the ad copy please).

Hi,
The weight limit on Marin was already covered by the existing "maxweight=3 st" tag (note the units - these are not metric tons).

Thank you for catching this. It looks like it was added by BogDan_Olegovich in changeset/57300396

I would assume that something like this is simply a typo. The actual surface looks like asphalt to me.

Hi,
node/4972855030/history doesn't appear to have any connection to the british chain you changed it to.

The official_name tag in way/414033713/history looks more like an operator name? official_name=* would be the full official name of the actual school.

What kind of clothes does node/5529666651/history sell? That's clearly not a clothes shop. Same goes for node/5529666663/history (which looks like it might not even still be in business - their website redirects to someone else and the sign appears painted over in bing streetside)

Your other edits look fine, but please be more careful and don't just automatically accept every suggestion the validator gives you.

Hi. You're deleting the building=* tag from buildings here. I don't know if it's caused by an error in your software or something else, but it shouldn't be happening.

132249359 almost 3 years ago

"highway=pedestrian" combined with "area=yes" is the normal way to tag a pedestrian plaza; it does not mean that the way is a road. It means that the way is a large open pedestrian area, like a plaza. By removing the tag you've essentially just removed the plaza here.

Please have a look around the map to see how things are typically mapped, and take a look at highway=pedestrian#Squares_and_plazas

Hi,
In this edit it looks like you were trying to add a lift gate somewhere along Nike Rd. However, you changed a long segment of the road itself into a very long gate instead... The normal way to add a gate (or other kinds of barrier) is to tag a node with "barrier=gate" at the point that the gate blocks the road. It's usually a good idea to add access tags like, for example: foot=yes if it's open to foot traffic, or access=yes if it's open to everyone.

See barrier=*
and access=*

Hi,

Please note that California cuisine and Californian cuisine are not quite the same thing ( node/314115443/history for example). "California cuisine" a specific thing, while I guess "Californian cuisine" would just be whatever Californian's eat?

Also, "Mongolian Barbecue" ( eg: node/3429340744/history ) is not actually related to Mongolian cuisine at all; it's its own thing. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolian_barbecue .

I suspect that you might also get some pushback on the idea that "mexican_american" is exactly the same thing as "mexican;american", or that "korean_bbq" should be changed to "korean;barbecue".

Fyi I passed by here today and way/24221450 isn't actually a Wells Fargo. It's always a good idea to verify notes left by others.

To get an idea of how unreliable these public records are take a look at the City of Berkeley's creek data and compare it to the county's: https://data.cityofberkeley.info/browse?q=creek&sortBy=relevance

I wouldn't really consider either of these datasets reliable enough to import into osm to be honest.

Hi, you deleted a big chunk of Capistrano/Middle Creek here. I have personally surveyed most of this (I live nearby, and have done work on a couple of portions of these creeks as part of my job.) We had to send a camera down into the culvert to figure out where part of the Middle Creek culvert was in Albany because the public records were unreliable. It looks like you're copying these from the Alameda County Flood Control District data. The county data is useful but not always accurate - most of the creek culverts were built in the 1800-early 1900s by private landowners and developers who didn't always keep records, so there aren't currently any complete/reliable maps of the current creek networks. The county data also sometimes conflates ordinary storm drains under the street with actual named creeks.

Hi, I'm wondering where you got the name "Behrens Way" from? As far as I can tell this is just part of Spokane Ave. south of the county line and Behrens Ave. north of it.

Hi, do you know anything more about this place? Dubbelju closed and was replaced by a rocket engine company, but that company didn't stick around for very long and this location is filled with motorcycles again. The signage for Dubbelju is still up alongside the signs for a motorcycle repair business (Moto Lucia) and I can't tell if it's re-opened or not.

Unfortunately I had to revert this changeset; please don't add nonsense to the map. Thank you.
