almost 2 years ago | why would the State route be downgraded for this section?
almost 2 years ago | Many of these roads downtown meet the criteria of secondary as of the Chicago area classification standards. Being business lined, traffic light controlled and cross riverways and highways.
almost 2 years ago | only some sections meet some criteria of trunk. but it is mainly a primary route. also do class roads based on traffic volume.
almost 2 years ago | so no separate discussion on slack for IL tagging?
almost 2 years ago | Primary were set as State and US routes and some main roads in urban areas as they already connect town centers across the state. Some would be upgraded as Trunk if they were built as high speed expressways but with some at grade intersection. If they were based on connectivity, then every US and state route would be a trunk.
almost 2 years ago | got a link to there discussions?
almost 2 years ago | Basically, it is saying it would need to built like a grade seporated highway but with some at grade intersections.
almost 2 years ago | Fixed the access tagging for those areas.
almost 2 years ago | Ya, seems that section near monroe harbor is strictly bikes only.
almost 2 years ago | fixed. since its a connects directly to a freeway and is fully grade separated it should be a motorway.
about 2 years ago | ya, but take a look at my arguments about primary roads on the Chicago area wiki classification. I was asking for input on those specific roads. trying to find ways of determining why they should be upgraded. Western is similar to Irving being a 4 lane road. but now that opens up 100 other roads that have similar features to also be primary. You could do Ida b wells and michigan, but then should you also do columbus, ontario, ohio, upper wacker, some would think rosevelt is an easy way into the city. would the boulavards need to made primary, or s Jeffery since it leads into lsd. every road that connects to lsd, since those are high traffic routes. basically without that direct set of rules, it snowballs with everyone thinking their preferred route should be labeled as primary.
about 2 years ago | the state and US routes like North Ave were built to function differently with more lanes and less traffic lights for faster travel times.
about 2 years ago | It feels like it should be classed differently than other downtown streets only because it is an iconic street. the functionality is the same as other secondary roads downtown and actually slower to use than the other adjacent roads.
about 2 years ago | ahh, fixed. Tower 12 is the name of the control tower, Wabash-Van Buren Junction was the official name of the actual junction, but the tower numbers "Tower 12 Junction" have become prominent for the common names.
over 2 years ago | I can see argument there.. since the bus lane physically separates the turn lane from the others. It would be better to map them as such and then it would make more since to combine that small stretch with the turn lane.
over 2 years ago | I didn't think the lines need combined for 100ft of shared turnlane.
over 2 years ago | Western is neither a state route or US route. so secondary is a correct tag.
over 2 years ago | There is still the section where the bridge was that is still marked as no access, under construction, so routing isn't available until that is marked open.
over 2 years ago | most of the bike lanes downtown are being converted to separated lanes. ive noticed a lot of work needs done on bikemap around chicago
over 2 years ago | I can agree to the class.
