I have managed to add a few town names to the map but I still see "unknown town" when I zoom in. The only time I see the town names I added is when I zoom out. Can someone help me figure out why “unknown” is still appearing at certain zoom levels?

Mapnik (the default map on the OSM main page) can take a while to update, and not all zoom levels are rendered at the same time.
If you wait a while longer (a day or two), it will probably all look correct. Its also possible you are looking at a cached copy, so worth trying Shift+Refresh in your browser.
You can also mark tiles as "Dirty", which will cause them to be rendered. More details here: osm.wiki/Slippy_Map

Thanks Vclaw, I added the town names to the map 5days ago so I was hoping the 'Unknown' will disappear by now. I will wait a few more days. I will also try Shit+Refresh.Thank you!!

Here is an example. 6.6065779, 0.2445062. when you first go to this point(434454388) on the map you will see Unknown but if you zoom-in further down you will see the town name Dodi which i added 5days ago.

I refreshed some tiles and now everything looks correct to me.
What I've done (using Firefox as browser):
- look at the map where "unknown" is visibleand point the mouse cursor to it
- right click to open the context menu
- select Open Image from the context menu (usind middle mouse button to open it in another tab, so the map is still there)
- look at the tile picture
- click shift-reload to reload the image without using a cached version
- sometimes now it's ok, you're finished with this tile, go on to another tile
- if it isn't ok add /dirty to the address, e.g. change http://b.tile.openstreetmap.org/10/513/493.png to http://b.tile.openstreetmap.org/10/513/493.png/dirty and press the return key
- Mapnik will render this tile, sometimes it is finished in seconds, sometimes in minutes
- use shift-reload on the tile image to see if mapnik is ready
Hope this helps

Zartbitter, thanks for your time. I am not getting the context menu when I right click on "Unknown". I get this Adobe thing....Settings and About Adobe. What am I doing wrong?
