hi. mapping unclassified unpaved roads as tracks. we're trying to avoid that.

oups, too bad. I should check my Moroccan trips, I surely have something. archived.

this is a very good idea! can you initiate that please, I'm behind a very slow connection. I can review the wiki syntax if needed, and the wording if you think so, but would you please put the image in place first.

the group is on Telegram (it is by-invitation, you need to first join Telegram, and ask others to be added to it), but has wiki resources too, like this osm.wiki/Highway_Tag_Africa. a good contact person is Claire Halleux, who has a hotosm email address, you will have no trouble locating her in the mailing list archives.

I had commented to some ADT edits, and their main reply was on this changeset: changeset/76003348, and via Andrew Wiseman, in the generic Telegram OSM group.

bonjour, merci pour la prompte réponse. the ADT group provided me with a couple of examples, and mentioned your activity documenting in the wiki.

are you aware of the efforts of the "Tagging Africa" group?

hi, as a remark to your team, please do not tag roads with residential function internal to residential areas as `track`, but also please try to keep some individuality in your roads definition. an extreme counterexample: 734717254. one looking much better: 297588910.

Alain, good day. you are being referred to as the example to follow, by ADT, the Apple Data Team. in particular, they are following your example of tagging roads internal to residential areas as 'track', that's the value reserved to agroforestal roads lacking other functions.

Hi Gill, thanks for your reply and the links,

I'll have a closer look tomorrow, I only saw the first object and it looks scary, apart from being contrary to the "map-by-function" logic.

but I'll check tomorrow with a fresh mind, :-)

hi, thanks for contributing to mapping le Maroc, but please be careful with excessive usage of highway=track. these do not apply inside residential areas.

74470895 about 5 years ago

hi, please beware against mapping residential roads as 'track', also when tracing roads from settlement to settlement, consider 'unclassified', or maybe just "road", informing the rest of the community you don't know.

72514625 about 5 years ago

Hi. please be careful with tagging unpaved roads as 'track', that's not always the case, in particular when inside built up areas.

74469595 about 5 years ago

hi, please beware against tagging all unpaved roads as 'track', that's generally not correct. in Morocco unpaved roads may connect towns, and roads inside settlements are residential or service roads, never 'track'. I see you're not any more in the ADT, too bad. see by yourself if you want to fix it in your personal time, as most mappers are doing.

hi. please be careful with tagging unpaved roads as "track". doing so in residential areas is an obvious mistake.

hi. thank you for adding so much details to Morocco! it's a beautiful country, and very rewarding mapping it. be careful with the tagging of unpaved roads as tracks, you are confusing the condition of the road with its function.

bonjour Marcel. :-)

Hola! I'm reviewing this area, checking the usage of highway=track and replacing it with whatever function the road has, and if possible adding surface paved/unpaved/compacted.
I'll be happy to chat with you, and refine our mapping habits.

75454013 about 5 years ago

hola "CharcoVerde",

Hola Drammenselva, I'm going to correct your mapping, you added lots of valuable information, but you could consider two points to make better contribution:
in Morocco there's hardly ever __bends__ in roads within old towns, it's mostly sharp corners. through roads do have bends because they have been adapted to cars, but traditionally, it's sharp corners.
second point is about classification, you should review the meaning of classifying for function against representing the condition of the road. **track** is for access to agroforestry activities. your roads are mostly **unclassified** when outside towns, or residentian/service within them.
happy mapping and please do get in contact. Morocco is a rewarding country to map!
