You are correct, that is an error. It has been corrected in changeset

The error was reguarding the mapping of stop signs.

highway=stop#Tagging_minor_road_stops

I had initially done the full stop sign relation, where you tag the intersection as a stop, and then the stopping point as well, with highway=stop, and direction=forward/backward. My preference would be to only put the stop points where the traffic stops, and then specify direction, however since the wiki is clear to in all cases mark the intersection at 4 way stops, I decided to not mark the stopping points as well. this is beacuse doing so would throw off routing software which would see a 4 way stop marked this way as having two stop signs, and would give a double time penalty to that intersection in routing.

When I removed the highway=stop tag, I missed also removing the direction=forward/backward tag.
