Very Good So Far

Posted by kachan64 on 7 September 2014 in English.

I’ve been editing Australia, Victoria around the shops and stuff. Seems that some places have being changed or did not have a name, so I added them anyway.

This OpenStreetMap is useful since I’m using MapFactor which is an offline GPS navigation tool. By editing maps and places, people are now informed of near by places and shops without having to guessing where they are.

SuperTuxKart, which is a kart racing game have used OpenStreetMap data on their racing tracks, which to me is a pretty cool thing. Which can be read osm.wiki/Supertuxkart

Hooray, more Australians!

FYI, it’s generally good practice to add a comment when you upload a changeset - it’s not required, but this page goes into some of the benefits. (I see you’ve already discovered the wiki - it’s handy if you’re looking for how to tag something, but a bit lacking in stuff specific to Australia.)

Similarly, you don’t need to save after every individual change. It’s certainly possible and doesn’t do any harm but you might find it more convenient to e.g. add a few places at once and then save with a comment like “Adding some more local shops”. The end result is the same either way, but the latter can be a bit clearer in the long term.

Of course every (non-spammy) little bit is great, so it doesn’t really matter in the scheme of things. Like I said - hooray, more Australians!

Thanks for the intro. Yeah, i’ve been reading the wiki for sometimes now, which i’m still reading. It’s a useful tool to learn how OpenStreetMap works. It’s a shame not everyone is using is correctly (if you know what I mean).

The system doesn’t save comments sometimes and sometimes has the same comments across all the places i’ve been editing. But oh well, learned that it will not save and thanks for the tip. And yes, I’m fairly new to this system, I’m so use to save all the time before something happens.

Cool, thanks. I’ll be learning more and wish to do something great.

Rather than something great .. I just add stuff. Local mostly, some times in places I am interested in. There is a wiki page on Ozie specific things .. umm

osm.wiki/Tips_especially_for_Aussies - index osm.wiki/Australian_Tagging_Guidelines - most usefull!
