Changeset When Comment

Hi!

In this changeset, the tags for "bicycle", "horse", and "foot" were removed when the highway tag was changed from "track" to "path". If you look at highway=path these tags (bicycle and foot on all of it, plus horse on the public bridleway section) are still required. I've added them back.

Hi!

There's no need to add bicycle=no, horse=no, and motor_vehicle=no to a footway - highway=footway already implies those values: osm.wiki/OSM_tags_for_routing/Access_restrictions#United_Kingdom

oops - I meant west!

"- sometimes the tunnel overflows over the road" applies to a stream further east

URL was truncated:-

osm.wiki/OSM_tags_for_routing/Access_restrictions#United_Kingdom

(default access for highway=footway already includes horse=no and bicycle=no, hence redundant)

Hi!
In this changeset you changed way/343100704 and way/692830380 from highway=track to highway=footway. They're actually a Public Bridleway (and a signposted cycle route), so if it's no longer a track, highway=path or highway=bridleway would be better.

More to follow another day, particularly with the pavement/shared use path/crossings

Hi!

You've changed the values for tracktype for these two tracks off Newton Lane:-
way/28557785/history
way/97248754/history

The tracks are just dirt/grass with fallen leaves without much hardcore except at the ends - I tried to cycle on them today and found it difficult. Can I ask what the source of your information is?
According to the wiki, tracktype=grade2 is "Solid but unpaved.", and grade3 is "Mostly solid." In particular, I would expect tracktype=grade2 to correspond to surface=compacted/gravel, not to surface=ground (which implies no or little hardcore).

Hi.

You've marked the gates around the level crossing as "motor_vehicle=permissive". I think that "no" or "private" would be better - "permissive" would mean that motor vehicles could pass through here at any time without asking for permission.
See access=*#List_of_possible_values

Thanks Andy.

I clearly wasn't looking closely at the relations when I merged the sections of road.

Hi.

You've added "motor_vehicle=designated" to The Square. This is often added to motorways and Byways where motor vehicles have a legal right of way at all times (it's stronger than "yes"). It's not normally needed on ordinary roads, because motor vehicles have the same access rights as pedestrians, horses, and cyclists. Did you mean "destination" or "no"?
Similarly for this node: node/9139145767 - the block would suggest the tag should be "motor_vehicle:conditional=no @ (Sa-Su)"

tweak admin area boundary using https://csmale.dev.openstreetmap.org/os_boundaryline/parish_region/Hampshire_County/Chilcomb_CP.gpx (I wanted to check it because I thought the sharp bit on Fair Lane at Itchen Valley/Chilcomb boundary was a dragged node, but it's real)

Hello Miles.

Changing/removing correct tags because they don't work with a particular tool is bad practice: osm.wiki/Good_practice#Don.27t_map_for_the_renderer

In this case, the best practice would be to contact the providers of the mapping tool and get them to fix it ("report the issue to the data consumer." in the wiki article).
I'll revert your edit shortly.

Hi!

Can you explain why you removed traffic_signals:direction from these nodes? There's nothing in the associated wiki article to say that the tag was used incorrectly: traffic%20signals:direction=*?uselang=en-GB

last part of changeset comment should be: "removed bizarre golf cart path" - it was overlaid on the road
