I really enjoy using OSM and the potlatch editor. Kinda Messed up earlier with the types of highways. I guess it is a little different here though. My primary problem is accurately choosing the correct type of highway. The problem with many of the logging roads around here is that they are all in a different condition. Some logging roads are almost a secondary road in my opinion because they are very commonly used and maintained. I have most of those listed as highway=unclassified now. There are also "spur" roads off of these logging roads. Some spurs are heavily wooded and only can be hiked, other spurs are only slightly overgrown and can be passed by ATV's. Currently I am tagging them like this...
*Main Logging Road
*Road Spur (May be "water barred" ie took the culverts out and created ditches in the road for drainage. Still passable by trucks and SUV's)
*ATV only
*hiking only
I am making use of these tags
highway=unclassified
highway=track
tracktype=grade*
surface=unpaved
highway=path
Here is the imagery that Alaska GINA provides.

Hopefully the conventions I am using are useful.

Hi jonlits. I've linked this diary post from [osm.wiki/Alaska the Alaska wiki page] because you've posted some useful info, but there should probably be some of this copied over to there.
