Mapping in Australia

Posted by jcurl on 24 December 2009 in English.

It's nice to see that there is quite a lot of progress for Mapping in Australia. There's a lot of roads marked without names, but the streets are mapped out. Around Aberfoyle Park, there's still quite a lot of missing information I'm trying to update.

It's been a while since my last update, a lot (for the better) has changed! JOSM has Photo Mapping integrated, changesets have descriptions, updates on OSM are rendered almost immediately now. All of this makes for good editing.

Now what I just really need is a OSM logger for my Windows Mobile that can use the built in GPS to pull data in real time and store it as GPX. That would be cool. Then the next coolest thing would be to add waypoints immediately with my phone :)

+1 for OSMtracker (on v0.10). Has a few issues on HTC Touch HD, but otherwise very good.
Waypoint addition & ability to view (& download) OSM tiles is fantastic...

OSMtracker looks nice and has Mapnik well integrated. Had some problems with GPS though, it doesn't seem to do any filtering (it found my position then jumped to a location about 100km away). I'm reverting to Garmin XT on my device to take tracks and using OSMtracker to just check Mapnik to find out what's new.
