Thanks for the detailed response Erwin. It makes a lot of sense valuing the ability to match the capture settings to the phone’s capabilities and having an easy way to transfer the images.

And good to know that features such as auto-level and focal adjustment are appreciated.

Great write up as always Gowin. I’m curious which aspects of OpenCamera are most appealing relative to Mapillary? I had in on my phone for years, but never used it extensively. Sounds like I should take another look.

This is an excellent write up. Good to see how you have improved GPS results. It might be worth us at Mapillary considering a feature to align external GPS traces with imagery and video. We had such a feature many years ago with the web uploader.

As you mentioned, the onboard stitching was the major difference, but also the major advantage that we found with the GoPro Max. It makes it much quicker to upload the images after capture, although this stitching will also create artefacts.

This is super impressive. Looks like a fun project. What did you use for field surveys to ensure you had all the shops and entrances in the right location?

Wide angle lens options are definitely interesting for us as this becomes more common on Android phones. I hear it’s quite tricky to implement support for, but it’s something we’ll be looking at for the same reasons you are. Being able to see businesses, landmarks, bus stops, in the wide angle lends is helpful for mapping purposes.

There are some really good 360º cam options on the market now. Going to test the GoPro Max this weekend, but it looks really promising so far with on-device GPS and processing and the ability to take time lapse photos. They’ve also come down in price a lot which is a plus.

Thanks for sharing your workflow Jesse. The images do indeed look good. I’m curious what the main reasons are for using Open Camera over the Mapillary are. This would be really helpful for future improvements to the native Mapillary app.

Congratulations @apm-wa. We really appreciate your contributions. The world, myself included, does not know enough about Turkmenistan, so thanks for capturing such extensive imagery there. There is a little surprise waiting when you reach the 500,000 milestone. I recently passed 400,000 as well so why don’t we race each other there ;)
