Many thanks for spotting this. JOSM auto complete seems to have got the better of me.

It should now be fixed.

Many thanks for correcting the road classification. Are we allowed to use the data provided by councils with regard to road/prow designation? I assumed this wasn’t allowed due to OS copyright issues. It would be useful if we could as byways, BOATs etc. are quite often not identified on the ground.

I’m afraid I don’t agree with your view on the service=driveway tag. There is nothing to suggest its use should be limited to a “private property” on the wiki. Presumably the access=* tag can be used if it needs to be defined as private. I have noted the rendering issue on the main OSM map. If you have concerns about this would it not be best to raise this with the relevant forum to get it changed.

Many thanks for the comment. I started doing this as my changesets can be quite large and the source for individual objects within this can be quite different. The internet connection I have can be a bit unreliable so it has been easier to not use lots of smaller changesets. I built some JOSM presets for most of the objects I routinely add and these include the source so it doesn't take much time to add.

I think you will find that Brownber is an old estate which has now been broken up into a number of old and new residences. This was my impression when I walked through it. I cannot be 100% sure but it looked very much like a driveway and not a unclassified highway. I walked along the path from the A685. I have also noticed the issue about driveways not appearing until after footways but this is really an issue for those rendering maps. I haven't raised it so I have no idea what the opinions are. Most rendering is a compromise and much tends to concentrate on urban areas. I don't however think this is a good reason not to use the best tags we have at the moment. OMSUK is looking to produce a rendering specific to the UK so with luck they will consider this issue when designing it. There are many examples in the UK of shared driveways in rural areas and numerous examples of paths leading from driveways. Old estates get broken up into smaller units so driveway become shared. At this time it seems most suitable to tag these as highway=service and service=driveway. I am hoping to do a walk in this area in June so if I get a chance I will try and check these roads in more detail but based on my survey on the area highway=service and service=driveway is what I would use as a tag at this time.

Hi Jan

Many thanks for spotting this. I have removed the tag. There was also a highway=track tag missing for the way above this which I have now added.

Hi Mike

No problem with the feedback. I'm afraid I don't know how to find the specific way you mention to look at the history. I think this tag must have already been on the way or I must have accidentally copied it from another way as this isn't a tag/style of tagging I would currently intentionally apply.

Hi Jerry

Well spotted. If I'm not sure I will use entrance. I have always assumed that if you have a barrier with out an entrance, gate, still etc routing wouldn't work so this is my default. Having checked my pictures I have one looking back at this. As you suggest it is a stile and a gate. I have corrected this.

Hi

I have now looked at the website!!

It seems that there was an order to change this into a bridleway from a "non-classified" highway but this has gone to the planning inspectorate as people have objected and what it classifed as a BOAT. It looks like a decision will be made later this year.

I've added a note in addition the changes.

Hi

I walked along this only this Sunday. I haven't quite got the tagging right as it is a little problematic. I was assuming it would be a BOAT given the motocyles and motorcycle with sidecar! that passed me. However it seems it is an adopted highway. You could therefore argue that this is "unclassified" but it doesn't really fit with this. There is a DCC sign in Brushfield asking "Off Roaders" to respect the residents for example.

I tend to try and use the highway tag on the basis of function. i.e. track when it is accessing fields and service when it is a driveway to a farmyard or residential area. I will change the small section that serves the residences in Brushfield to highway=service and the rest to highway=track and put access=yes along with a designation=adopted_highway. If your not happy with this feel free to change. I must admit I've not come across this before in the Peak District.

Hi

Changed to entrance. I generally use this where the is a passage through a collapsed part of wall or a gap that doesn't look like it was every a gate entrance.
