Removing duplicate bike paths, updating details of bike paths, and improving routing information is fun! The Sockburn roundabout and bridge is one of the most hostile places for bikes and pedestrians I have ever visited. In the process of surveying it with a fieldpaper map, I almost got hit a few times. To be fair, I was biking with one hand, the other was holding the map XD. I sent an email to the CCC asking if they were intending to improve it.
Adding businesses in the Upper Riccarton chinatown area was great fun! It adds so much texture when you really get down to the fine details. Such an interesting place that I never hear people talk about. I really recommend Ramen Miyako, it slaps.

Hi David I got involved with OSM while looking for low cost walking maps. OSM’s name was created to be found by accident by people look for Ordnance Survey Maps Great Britain’s Government funded maps, good but expensive. I agree roundabouts are not easy to pass on cycles or foot. On foot crossing the lane into the roundabout is ok but the traffic exiting the roundabout can’t be seen or predicted when crossing the exit lane.. I have seen pictures of roundabouts with an outer foot and cycle roundabout. They cover lots of land. Low speed, say 20kph, limits on roundabouts could be one answer. Could also work well for filtering on when cross traffic is held up by a fairly continuous flow in the cross direction. I wish you happy, and safe mapping. Andy

Wow, Andy, I didn’t know that’s how they came to the name, that’s very funny. It’s interesting where OSM really shines. I’m sure walking maps is one of those places.
