Both Clarkston Hall and Library are addressed off Clarkston Road. The name of Clrkston Road only changes in front of Stamperland Crescent and then reverts back to Clarkston Road. The OS is authoritative on this based on the OneScotland Gazetteer

It seems to have done that when I upgraded the tag. I have put it back on and Will see what happens.

The name is taken from the One Scotland Gazetteer, which is the official list of property addresses in Scotland: https://osg.scot/portal/

Hi. I didn’t. I changed railway stations to subway stops.

yes, I've noticed that now. Is there a way to undelete?

I've read different opinions on where you centre the name for places but I think when it's a town it should be on Main Street, so have moved it.

I don't believe that places/districts/suburbs etc., should be named based on anecdotal evidence.

There is a road called Bounds Green Road but there is no evidence I can find that the area was ever called anything other than Wood Green or Bowes Park

yes, forgot to change my reason - it should have been 'delete non-existent district'

lokking at the definition of footpath in the wiki the description of a footpath is something that is external to a building. There seems to have been some discussion on defining a corridor but it doesn't seem to have progressed to being an option under highways yet. Also, a footpath suggests some sort of public access and Buchanan Galleries is a private space that is closed off outside of opening times.

Hi, I think I added it there, saved it and then moved it.

I think I'll have to move it again as I've been made aware that district/locality names should be at the perceived centre of the area!

Hi,

It's a weird one.

I know the area as my aunt lives in Virginia Water and the family always talked about the pub at Knowlehill. Harpesford Avenue was just the name of that one street.

I'm a bit flummoxed by OS giving it the prominence it has but I'm open to suggestions.!?

St Pancras was the name of the parish and former metropolitan borough. There has never been any specific 'suburb' known as St Pancras. The area around King's Cross has historically been known as King's Cross. There may be an argument for a neighbourhood designation for the immediate vicinity of the railway station of the same name (see Wikipedia article for St. Pancras, London)

Thanks.

Information comes from research, using various sources of information.

Is there any evidence this is a 'suburb' rather than a term used to refer to the immediate environs of the Swiss Cottage road junction?

Hi,

It appeared on OS maps until at least the mid to late 1940s (the newest I can find at the moment). It is correctly the Liberty of Saffron Hill, Hatton Garden, Ely Rents and Ely Place but was always shown on OS Maps as Liberty of Saffron Hill.

As districts/suburbs have no legal significance in the UK then as this is area was historically is there any issue with it being marked?

West Kilburn is the name of the area on OS Maps.

Hi there,

Sorry, I missed that in the guidance.

I had moved the place nodes to the centre of the area based on a triangulation of boundaries.

Some of the more suburban districts obviously have no central point but I see the argument with places like Canning Town.

I will review the changes I have made and sort the appropriate nodes.

Apologies again, CML
