You might find it helpful, since you can mark pedestrian crossings around the school as well. Is #Driftnet a tag for an organized editing group? I can't find it on the wiki anywhere.

You don't need to include images when you are editing based on a survey or local knowledge, however it can be helpful to use as a reference when you are editing. When you are uploading your changesets, you can add a "source" tag which helps other mappers understand how you knew to make the edit (aerial imagery, local knowledge, survey, etc...)

You can press 'q' with an object selected to square the corners in iD :)

If a road is closed for a short period of time, it's generally not mapped on OSM. You can read about how to properly map roads under construction here: highway=construction

However, if you know this to be the case because you have surveyed the location, this edit is acceptable. If you want to use street-level imagery in the future, iD has Bing's street view source as well as a few others in the "map data" section.

Where is the requirement that sidewalks are "present at streetside?" How far away do you consider acceptable for sidewalks?

Hi, please don't add foot=no unless it is illegal to walk on the road AND no sidewalk is present. You can instead add an appropriate sidewalk tag to the road (in this case it would be sidewalk:right=separate)
