My Edits for May 17 - 19, 2009

Posted by chindogu on 19 May 2009 in English. Last updated on 20 May 2009.

I am creating these lists as reference for myself, mainly because I haven't figured out how to save comments on a changeset.

The edits below were all done in Potlatch which I'm still trying to figure out. In the future I plan to work in JOSM but I haven't updated to the latest version and also need to add a necessary plugin.

https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/1216257 :: 7 nodes, 1 way :: Tempe, Arizona, US
Hurricane was showing me how to use Potlatch so we made these very minor edits around the library.

https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/1219321 :: 7 nodes, 2 ways :: Tempe, Arizona, US
Just a few edits around the Southern & McClintock intersection.

https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/1242440 :: 62 nodes, 14 ways :: Tempe, Arizona, US
Edits around the Baseline & McClintock intersection and a school near Guadalupe west of McClintock.

https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/1244570 :: 148 nodes, 25 ways :: Port Angeles, Washington, US
Found that there is much clean up work and additions needed in the Port Angeles area. I wish I had been using OSM when I was staying there last summer! I made some handwritten maps while I was there but I'm not certain that I kept them. I have a good spacial memory so I should still be able to do quite a bit.

https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/1245663 :: 1 node, 0 ways :: Port Angeles, Washington, US
Just an extra node for PA.

Unnumbered Changeset :: 1,000,000 nodes
It's only 2:30 am right now. Over 21 hours left in the day! Wild horses couldn't keep me away...

I understood Potlatch much better after working on Port Angeles but I still have far to go. For instance, I can't figure out how to close/save when I am finished. On the last edit I tried hitting 'C' and the box popped up to make closing notes. I clicked save (tried twice) but it shows as "still editing". Plan to look into this tomorrow (i.e. later today).

My May 16/17 Trace from the Mapping Party

Posted by chindogu on 18 May 2009 in English. Last updated on 19 May 2009.

I went out for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours on Saturday night, then again for 1 1/2 to 2 hours on Sunday. I wasn't aware that the GPS receiver I was using had a limited storage capacity, so several hours of my trace are missing.

Thankfully it seems that all my way points were saved. That was really a relief. I took such thorough notes that it isn't really a problem anyway.

All part of the learning curve!

Here she is, my second trace for the mapping party!

My First Mapping Party!!

Posted by chindogu on 17 May 2009 in English. Last updated on 19 May 2009.

Attended my first mapping party today with Meetup.com group Arizona OpenStreetMappers and members of PLUG (Phoenix Linux User Group). I was really excited to borrow a GPS unit and begin mapping!

Steve Coast and Hurricane McEwen from CloudMade hosted the event at Boulders on Broadway in Tempe, Arizona (US). Around 15 - 20 people came through, and it was fun meeting and chatting with fellow openmappers.

My trace covered about two hours. I could have kept going all day!

Another mapping party is set for tomorrow as well. Looking forward to mapping some more before then....

Here's a link to my first trace.
