You could simply use the web address (url). It updates each time you move the map to give the coordinates of the centre of the map view.

In the search box you can click on “Where am I?” to get lat lon

It could be useful to have the coordinates synced on the mouseover event in the bottom, in option.

i wanted to compare the latitude of NY with european towns.

a tool such as a measure tool for distance would be useful too, such as here : http://www.volvooceanrace.com/fr/virtualeye.html (selecting the tool distance, and click on the map.)
