| 56234300 | almost 8 years ago | Hi Mitch, No worries, good to hear you were able to sort it out and find what the problem was. I'm assuming you're happy to have these buildings added back in now that the filtering is working (we'll just need to make sure the land use areas are also added I suppose). You mentioned that you were keeping track of the deletions you were doing. Did you want to go ahead and revert the changes? I found some useful information about how to revert changes at https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/731/how-can-i-revert-a-changeset and on the wiki at osm.wiki/Change_rollback. It would probably be best for you to revert them, as you know better the change sets which need to be done. :-) |
| 56234300 | almost 8 years ago | Hi Mitch, Thanks for getting back to me. I completely understand wanting to clean up the map if you're having rendering issues on your devices. Poor rendering is not fun... :-) I was hoping to eventually map all the buildings in our area (in addition to the land use), so if we can work out a way to do this, that would be good. The guidelines I've been using for tagging houses in our area I found at osm.wiki/Buildings with the exact value for the key at building=*. I think that tagging them as "building=house" is the generally accepted way of tagging these structures. I know that there are specific tagging guidelines for Australia at osm.wiki/Australian_Tagging_Guidelines, but I can't see anything there specific about buildings. When you mention structures "tagged as houses" being filtered out but those "tagged as buildings" not being filtered, do you know what the exact key/value attributes are? I'm hoping we can use tags that work well for you, but I just want to make sure that we're also (perhaps more importantly) being consistent with the rest of the map and not "Tagging for the renderer" (osm.wiki/Tagging_for_the_renderer) in our local area. If there are issues with filtering/rendering these generally accepted tags, I'd assume that this issue exists everywhere in the world, so it might be worth getting in contact with the team at Garmin to let them know about the problem as they might be able to fix it in their next firmware update, especially if it's as simple as filtering which nodes to render. Thanks again, it's really nice finding other active mappers in this area! It gives a bit of motivation to keep working on the map if you know others are actively using it. :-) Regards, Andrew |
| 56234300 | almost 8 years ago | Hi MitchE3, Great to see some other locals in Kingston who also enjoy mapping the area! Just a quick questions about these building that you've removed and your reasons for doing so. I couldn't tell why you removed them from your commit message, so if you have a good reason for doing so, it would be great to know as I'd added some of them and I think they're a valuable addition to the map. Thanks! |
