Will this be the mapping standard?

Posted by adoborepublic on 11 October 2010 in English.

I found this site while placing a marker of royalvacationstravel.com at Map Quest. I have placed markers at Google, Yahoo and Bing but I'm thinking that there should be a mapping standard for placing geo locations. It's such a pain to be editing a location in so many sites where the longitude and latitude values varies among them. Hope openstreetmap.org become the standard in geo location maps.

But there are already standarts for geo information exchange like geoRSS, GML and ofcouse GPX/KML ?

thanks for the info. now, another question is - is there a kml standard code that google, yahoo and bing follows as a standard format? the reason i ask is because from my research, each of them has their own proprietary document format (kml) that a user has to follow in order for their mapping system to parse the code correctly? i'm no programmer and definitely not knowledgable in geo information - i'm just a newbie trying to learn this important system that i think would be widely used to make your business known in both web and mobile platform. thanks again for the info, i will look them up and learn more.

It's called gpx. Literally everyone but a few of El Cheapo GPS devices and the websites you mention get this.
