Great, thanks for the advice! I modified it as suggested.
(The reason for this access control - a nuclear military facility several kilometers south - is mapped in detail, but not marked as such. Also similar checkpoints and access restrictions on other roads leading to it aren't marked/mapped. Unfortunately, I don't have more info to change that in order to have a coherently reflected on OSM.)

Hello!
thanks for raising this point! I meant to further enquire about how to best reflect the reality of this feature, but forgot.
There is a gate, guarded by soldiers/military police. It seems to be open most of the time, if not always, but the guards sometimes check vehicles. There is a sign stating that foreigners are not allowed beyond this point. And indeed, if you are identified as foreigner, you cannot pass. I don't what restrictions exist for local citizens.
Perhaps instead of marking the note as gate/barrier, it is more meaningful to make it a police checkpost?

Hi LDG72IFURT,

Nice to see you having started to map on OSM! Welcome to the community!

This edit seems a bit random. There are loads of roads in the area which haven't been mapped, but you chose to add this little access road. Nothing wrong with that per se, in case this is a legitimate and important feature. Do you know this place? Why have you chosen to add this one, and not the other roads in the area?

All the best,
Ziggy

Cool, thanks a lot for the super clear and super helpful explanations!
I will keep this in mind in the future (but also focus on areas/countries where OSM data is far less complex and advanced and there are few contributors).

Hi!
thanks for checking my change set, @bxl-forever.
But just to clarify regarding the supposed "armchair mapping": I lived in "your city" for 12 years, roughly 900m from the paths I corrected. I did the corrections after visiting the place again. But you know, one cannot live in Brussels forever, which is why I now mainly focus on improving OSM in other places I know very well.
I have to admit though that I'm a relative newbie to OSM mapping and still have a lot to learn. Unfortunately, your comment doesn't help much as it mixes different issues (supposed lack of local knowledge, coherence of tags, large scale changes) without explanation.
So please, don't act like an armchair asshole. Instead, help newbies to learn and improve their contributions, so that the OSM community grows and the maps continue improving.
Cheers!
