I’m working on mapping our Minneapolis neighborhoods. My approach is to map one neighborhood at a time. I initially started with random edits around my house, but have decided to intensely cover a a specific neighborhood until it is finished.

Here’s my definition of finished:

• confirm all roads and alleys
• add all sidewalks
• add all houses, apartments, garages, and buildings
• add addresses to all houses, apartments, buildings
• add businesses, churches and schools

Here’s my editing approach:

1. Add or adjust all buildings and label them as houses, apartments, garages, etc as best as I can tell
2. Print out a survey sheet
3. Walk the survey sheet and collect addresses, business church and school names and a take photos of signs with hours or other details
4. Add address numbers and other details to the entities

I’m finding that adjusting everything BEFORE taking the survey and entering details really speeds up my process. Changing from data entry to making building adjustments takes more time.

I’m embarking on a significant local neighborhood, to combat my condition of being quarantined to home during the Covid-19 epidemic. My goal is to map my local neighborhood in significant detail.

My approach is to trace all buildings onto a given block, then creat a field paper for said block, then walk and collect all address, then input all those addresses. Blocks will be finished when all houses have addresses, and all exterior sidewalks are added.

Tonight I made a big update to US Highway 169 in Minnesota between Le Sueur and Shakopee. I created the two lane motorway with all connecting roadways.

In addition, I updated Highway 13 from US 169 to New Prague. There seemed to be a dual roadway entry on the map, so it took some time to remove one instance and link all connecting roads to the remaining highway.

Next time I go to Mankato, I will take 2 GPSr to get a good track to complete the US 169 motorway from Le Sueur to Mankato.

Just made some updates to the Summit Avenue in Saint Paul. I had a few tracls from biking through there, and I am very familiar with the area, so I got this pretty cleaned up. Added one ways and bridges, corrected connecting side streets. This is a pretty jumbled area. It looks good now.

I am noticing that the server lists the changes in the edit pages, but even after checking a day later, there seems to be some caches views that are a jumbled mess from the middle of my edits. The timing of the jumbling is when I received some error messages during editing. I will check back on the map later and see how things resolve themselves.

With input from HankCurt, I was able to create a dead-end, and remove some extra segments at roadway T's. Looks like I need a little more information and then I have another new hobby!

Tried my hand at adding some updates to the maps. Connected a neighborhood road, and removed a stub of road that is not there. Tried to create a dead-end on Van Buren Ave N, but was not able to make that happen. Will check back again in a few days.
