Hello recalificator,

OSM is used by many organisations for many purposes, it is not a toy. By making fake edits, you lower the quality of the map, meaning those who use it (including Niantic) are less likely to be able to update their data in the future.

Additionally, by the time Niantic does update their data, Wiglett will have most likely been featured in an event.

Rather than wasting everyone's time vandalising the map, I would suggest that instead you maybe take a trip out to this beach: way/1065956524 which should trigger the beach biome you're looking for.

Hi Samuel,

I can see there is a feature that would be a beach near here, but the area you have mapped is not a beach. Please let me know if you would like some help mapping it.

Please also be aware that we should keep private ownership details off OSM.

Hi PacOce,
Thank you for your reply here, I really appreciate it.
It's probably going to be a long time before Niantic updates the map data they use for biomes.
It looks like Oquirrh Lake just a bit south of where you've been mapping has had several beaches mapped for a few years - I'd wager that if you take the kids down there, you'll probably find Wiglett much sooner than you would by adding beaches inside suburban water retention basins.

Hi PacOce, there's nothing wrong with detail so long as you follow the OSM conventions, I'd suggest taking a look at the pages for forests and trees on the wiki as it will help clarify what either tag should be used for and how they should typically be mapped:

landuse=forest

natural=tree

The following wiki page might also be of help:
osm.wiki/Wood

Hello, you seem to have added a HEAP of individual trees as really complex closed ways. You've also added a lot descriptive names. I appreciate the detail, but I'd really suggest you check the OSM wiki because this isn't the correct way to map these kinds of features.

Hi PacOce,
What's with all the random inaccurate beaches you are adding around this location?

151163137 over 1 year ago

Hello, welcome to OSM. Please do not add fictional features to the map.

Hi, is the beach you added here just called Playpen? way/1071152697

Hi, welcome to OSM! You added a beach over some buildings, so I went ahead and removed it.

Hello, you changed this park into a beach. This is not a correct change and as such I am reverting it back.

This is 100% Pokemon GO mapping. A recent update made a certain kind of Pokemon appear exclusively at beaches.
The original mapper here needs to be aware that the map data in Pokemon GO is based on an old version of OSM and making bad edits like this will likely have no impact.

Hello, this is not a beach. I have reverted this change.

It is not a beach.

Welcome to OSM. I hope your future edits are more accurate.

Hi, welcome to OSM! You added a beach over some houses in this changeset so I went ahead and removed it.

Hi! Welcome to OSM. It looks like you set some water so that it's incorrectly tagged as a beach - I've fixed this up for you.

150842287 over 1 year ago

There appears to be a playground here - maybe it would be better to tag it as private rather than removing?

"That part made sense and was adjusted already."

No, it wasn't adjusted already. I fixed it. - see the history: way/440431477/history

If the sand is not all clear and open, it's probably not a beach, it's just sandy substrate covered in grass and scrub along a river bank. The definition of a beach is pretty clear. The imagery here is good enough to identify individual plants and clearly see the border of the actual beach area.

150686663 over 1 year ago

"So is there any significant difference to cutting out the sand bar as opposed to tagging the park area as "beach"?"

Marking the whole park as a beach is inaccurate because the whole park is not a beach. It's akin mapping an entire school as a cafeteria just because it has a cafeteria somewhere on the grounds.

OSM Generally works on the idea of "One feature, one OSM element"

You've also extended the beach down beyond where it actually is. Even on very, very current imagery, the beach does not extend as far as you have moved it. Can you explain why you are doing this? Scrub going almost the whole way up to the river bank.

150686663 over 1 year ago

I also see that you've re-added the beach tag to the entire park as well as having it on the beach area. Again, this is inaccurate.
