I’ve now changed the wording to reflect the intention to commit changes back to OSM i.e. future tense is used in a couple of the sentences. Amazing that Al Wusta hasn’t been edited for 3 years!

I have to admit that you’ve caught me out, here. I was planning to commit the changes next week, when I am reunited with my external hard drive. I had posted the Diary entry preemptively for my expedition team mates to proof read. One of the best things I’ve found about OSM is the attention to detail and vigilant yet encouraging attitude of the validators and the OSM community. I haven’t tried using Osmsync yet, but this is what I’m hoping to do.

Automate residential area boundaries?

Would it not make sense to first digitise all of the buildings, and then apply a convex hull algorithm i.e. ‘join the dots with a 100 metre buffer’? This would reduce the work load and ensure a more consistent approach to mapping residential areas.
