Over the last months I have mapped quite a bit near Ochtendung, as well as Göda.
Nothing big, but carrying my GPS logger with me and then tracking the small streets and hiking paths has become a sort of hobby for me.
While working on the map there was more and more the feeling that I want a different render, one that can be used very simply (no software to install, no Java to fiddle with), one that works (no Java app running out of memory :) and that can render the map I like it (no deciding between Mapnik or TAH and nothing else).
So I set out to create an AJAX application that can render OSM data in the browser, using nothing that the standard browser and the built-in capabilities like JS and the new canvas tag.
So far the results look like that plan could actually work:
