Great - thanks!

Hello Olga,
Andy from OSM's Data Working Group here. We've had a report that someone locally to San Diego is making up names and rather than being reverted themselves, is reporting the "changes" to MapBox and getting you to change them.
Rather than accepting corrections from allcomers, would it be possible to do some extra fact-checking, especially in this area?
Best Regards,
Andy
PS: If you'd like to talk to us about it, you can email [email protected] with a subject line of "Re: [Ticket#2022110510000142] [OpenStreetMap] San Diego".

Thanks for the explanation. It would have been great if you'd said something a bit more like than instead of "add name stress 1/1 " in the original comment!
I know we're limited to 255 characters, but it's also possible to "continue the comment in the discussion" - have a reasonably descriptive summary in the comment, and the rest of the explanation in the discussion.

This appears to be a mechanical edit. Please explain where you discussed it with the community, what your source was, and what the licence was.

Hello kechan_tagfix,
Here you've changed "building=building" to "building=yes". Now while "building=yes" is undoubtably more common than building=building, it conveys no extra information, so your edit is of no value here.
Also, it's clear from the imagery here that the northern building is rectangular but wasn't mapped accurately on the corners. If you had have squared the building, that would have been of benefit.
Also please use a better changesent comment than simply "fix building tag". Explain what you did, why you did it and what the source was.

The OSM wiki is supposed to describe how people map things, not tell them how to map.
The wiki page that you refer to explicitly says:
"building=offices
If you know places with this tag, verify if it could be tagged with another tag.
Automated edits are strongly discouraged unless you really know what you are doing!"

Are you saying here that you took no steps whatsoever to verify your change before reading (and it seems not understanding) a wiki page?

@Allison P
Thankfully, quite a lot of those changesets were completely blank.

This was saved by accident. It's part of the next changeset "Filled in gap in NCN6_R 12461".

https://osm.mapki.com/history/node/4027452036

Hello,
Your changeset here ("the city is called Stepanakert not Khankendi") looks like a purely political edit.

It also looks wrong in that the name:pl and alt_name:pl were changed to the same value, which makes no sense:

https://osm.mapki.com/history/node/4027452036

It is perfectly possible for the city to be called BOTH Stepanakert and Khankendi, by different people. If you have reason to believe that those names don't follow language usage, then please discuss with the wider OSM community.
Given the international nature of the conflict here, I'd suggest the main "talk" mailing list or community.openstreetmap.org
Best Regards,
Andy Townsend, on behalf of OSM's Data Working Group.

Alas, it seems that you have ignored the problems that you caused previously:

Hello,
This looks very much like a mechanical edit. I haven't seen any discussion with the local community. If you you did that, can you explain where? If not, it may need to be reverted.
Best Regards,
Andy

@marczoutendijk well, it depends on the context of course. If a mapper has been tagging highways as paved or unpaved, then an occasional unpaved3 is likely a typo. If they're just entering out of context tag keys and values, no so much.

I'm intrigued that religious extremists had those removed anywhere in the US! I guess the original Wicker Man never got a release there either? :)
