Actually, all of the stretch of road around way/452474053 is legally walkable (pretty much all trunk roads in the UK are), not just the bit where the LDP uses it. From memory, all or most of that section has a fairly wide verge too, so it's not even unpleasant to do so. I'm guessing you've added these tags to prevent comedy routing such as osm.org/directions?engine=fossgis_osrm_foot&route=53.9929%2C-0.9100%3B53.9911%2C-0.9160#map=13/53.9972/-0.9122 :) ?

Just for info - I've reverted some dubious edits here that were added in changeset/127441231 . If any of those names do look valid please let me know!

Here relation/14699388 is the actual racetrack and way/189902789 the grass area around it - used not just for horse racing events. Arguably a "leisure=sports_centre" could work here, but it is a common area that people can use.

It's a low-quality import by a French engineering school. Some of the replies you can see at http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussion-comments?uid=2504387 explain what they were trying to do (6 years ago).
I don't know if it was just a process failure (the actual source data was sound; they just imported it multiple times) or whether the source data itself was a problem.
